Glam과 Punk 헤어스타일의 비교연구

Abstract

본 연구는 1970년대의 글램 패션과 펑크 패션의 특징을 살펴보고 1970년대의 글램 헤어스타일과 펑크 헤어스타일의 특성을 비교분석함으로써 헤어스타일의 외적 환경에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓히고 추후 새로운 패션의 영향으로 발생 될 헤어스타일에 대한 이해의 기반과 통찰력을 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구의 방법으로는 1970년대의 글램 패션과 펑크 패션으로부터 저항(抵抗), 앤드로지너스(Androgynous), 추(醜)의 미(美), 페르소나(Persona)등 네 가지 공통적 특성을 추출한 후 이를 분석의 틀로 하여 사진자료를 통해서 두 헤어스타일을 비교분석하였다. 글램 패션과 펑크 패션의 특징은 패션 및 미용관련 서적과 논문을 통해 고찰하였으며 헤어스타일 관련 사진자료는 패션 및 미용관련 서적과 인터넷 사이트 등에서 수집하였다. 1970년대의 글램 패션과 펑크 패션에서 추출된 네 가지 공통적 특성을 기준으로 1970년대의 글램 헤어스타일과 펑크 헤어스타일을 비교분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 글램 헤어스타일과 펑크 헤어스타일에 나타난 저항적 특성을 비교분석한 결과 글램 헤어스타일에서는 전통적 남성의 헤어길이와 상반되는 웨이브 진 긴머리와 자연모발에 인공적인 색상을 추가하여 주황색이나 파란색의 염색을 함으로써 반규범적인 헤어스타일로 기성세대에의 저항적 의지를 표현하였다. 펑크 헤어스타일에서는 고전적 헤어스타일의 단정하고 안정된 형태에 대한 도전으로 머리카락의 일부분을 완전히 밀어버리거나 아주 짧게 자르고 특정부분만을 강조하는 공격적이고 파괴적인 형태로 기성세대에 대한 저항을 표현하였다. 원색의 현란한 모발 염색을 통해 그들 내부의 결속력을 다지고 외부세계에 대한 저항적 의지를 드러내기도 하였다. 글램 헤어스타일과 펑크 헤어스타일에 나타난 앤드로지너스적 특성을 비교분석한 결과 글램 헤어스타일에서는 남성들이 웨이브 진 긴 머리를 주로 하였으며 여성적인 노란색이나 주황색의 모발염색도 서슴지 않았다. 반대로 여성들은 짧은 헤어스타일을 함으로써 남성적 특성을 드러내었다. 펑크 헤어스타일에서는 남녀가 동일하게 위협적이고 공격적인 헤어스타일과 현란한 원색의 머리염색으로 앤드로지너스를 표현하였다. 글램 헤어스타일과 펑크 헤어스타일에 나타난 추의 미를 비교분석한 결과 글램 헤어스타일은 머리에 백콤(Back Comb)을 넣어 과장되게 부풀림으로써 균형미를 파괴하고 색이미지 조화의 일탈을 통해 추의 미를 표현하였다. 펑크 헤어스타일에서는 밑머리는 완전히 밀어버리고 중간의 머리만 꼿꼿이 세움으로서 전체적인 머리의 형태가 불균형을 이루거나 어느 한쪽 부분만 강조하여 밸런스가 맞지 않는 탈구성적인 형태를 나타내었다. 펑크 헤어스타일은 빨간색과 초록색의 보색대비 등 현란한 모발 염색으로 색이미지의 부조화를 통해 추의 충격효과를 최대한으로 발휘하며 그들의 집단 정체성을 표현하였다. 글램 헤어스타일과 펑크 헤어스타일에 나타난 페르소나를 비교분석한 결과 글램 헤어스타일에서는 우주적 이미지의 헤어스타일이나 동물의 페르소나를 표현한 헤어스타일을 통해 현실 도피와 앤드로지너스적 경향을 나타내었다. 펑크 헤어스타일에서는 주변머리를 짧게 자르거나 밀어 버리고 윗머리만 남겨서 위로 뻗치는 헤어스타일을 함으로서 전사의 페르소나를 통해 자신들의 불만과 기성세대에 대한 저항의지를 표현하였다. 두 헤어스타일을 비교분석한 결과 글램 헤어스타일에서 가장 두드러진 특징은 앤드로지너스였다. 그들은 헤어스타일의 전통적인 색상과 형태에 도전함으로써 성역할의 전복을 꾀하였다. 현대패션에서 펑크에 비해 글램이 부각되지 못했던 것은 글램의 외적 요소들이 펑크로 일부 흡수되었고 그들의 사상 자체가 도전적이라기보다는 사이키델릭이나 우주지향적인 것에서 알 수 있듯이 현실 도피적이었기 때문이었다. 펑크 헤어스타일에서 가장 두드러진 특성은 저항이었다. 그들은 위협적이고 공격적인 헤어스타일로 기성세대에 저항하며 자신들의 집단 정체성을 표현하였다. 현대패션에서 펑크가 하이문화(High Culture)로 수용될 수 있었던 것은 청소년 문화가 강하게 대두되면서 펑크의 저항정신과 청소년들의 도전의식이 상통했기 때문이다. 인간은 성별과 연령에 관계없이 누구나 외모를 통해 자신을 과시하고자 하는 욕구를 지니고 있다. 글램과 펑크족들이 그들만의 헤어스타일을 통해 개성과 정체성을 추구하려 했던 것에서 알 수 있는 바와 같이 사회가 다원화될수록 각자의 개성과 정체성 표현의 중요한 요소로서 헤어스타일의 역할은 더욱 더 부각될 것이다.

The purpose of this study is not only to widen and deepen the understanding of external environments of hairstyle but also to provide the basis of understanding and perspicacity as to the hairstyle which will be created under the influence of new music by contemplating distinctions between Glam Fashion and Punk Fashion of 1970s and by comparing and analyzing distinctions between Glam Hairstyle and Punk Hair Style of 1970s. As the method of this study, first of all four common factors, which are resistance, androgynous, beauty of ugliness and pursuit of pleasure through persona, were able to be abstracted from both Glam Fashion and Punk Fashion of 1970s, and then by using that factors as analyzing instrumental frame, the above two hairstyles were compared and analyzed through photographic materials in this study. Distinctions of Glam Fashion and Punk Fashion were researched through books and treatises on fashion and beauty and photographic materials related to hairstyles are collected from books on fashion and beauty and from internet websites etc.. Based on the above four common factors which are abstracted from Glam Fashion and Punk Fashion of 1970s, the result of comparing and analyzing the distinctions between Glam Hairstyle and Punk Hairstyle are as follows: As a consequence of comparing and analyzing the each resistance distinction expressed in the Glam Hairstyle and Punk Hairstyle, Glam Hairstyle expressed the will of resistance against the pre-existing generation with the anti-norm style such as by wearing waved long hair opposite to male’s traditional hair length or by adding artificial colors to natural hair, for example, dyeing hair orange or blue. Punk Hairstyle also represented the same kind of resistance in the aggressive and destructive form, by cutting some parts of hair completely or cutting it very shortly and emphasizing only particular part of hair. It enabled people to strengthen their internal solidarity and to reveal their will of resistance against the outside world by means of primary-colored and florid hair dyeing. As a consequence of comparing and analyzing each distinction on androgyny expressed in the Glam Hairstyle and Punk Hairstyle in Glam Hairstyle, men usually wore waved long hair and they didn’t hesitate to wear the yellow or orange hair dyeing, whereas women expressed the masculine character with short hairstyle. In Punk Hairstyle, both men and women expressed androgyny in the same way with the threatened and aggressive hairstyle and primary-colored and florid hair dyeing. As to beauty of ugliness distinctions, in Glam Hairstyle, beauty of ugliness was presented through destruction of balance beauty and departure from color image harmony by way of inserting back comb into whole hair and exaggerating hairstyle. In Punk Hairstyle, unbalanced and anti-formational was shown by unbalancing the overall form of hair or emphasizing one part of hair with the bottom-side hair cut completely and the middle-side hair straight up. Punk Hairstyle demonstrated the shocking effect of ugliness at its maximum and established their group identity through the disharmony of color image with florid hair dyeing such as the contrast of the complementary color between red and green. Speaking of persona, in Glam Hairstyle, we can find the trend of androgyny and escape from reality by way of the cosmic image hairstyle and through the hairstyle expressing persona of the animal. In Punk Hairstyle, people expressed both discontent and the will of resistance against pre-existing generation with the persona of warrior by having their side haircut very shortly or completely or making top hair remain and straight up. According to the results of comparing and analyzing two hairstyles above, in Glam Hairstyle, the androgynous character is the most remarkable distinction. They tried to overturn the gender role by challenging the traditional color and form of hairstyle. The reason why the Glam was not brought into relief in the modern fashion in comparison to the Punk is because the external factors of the Glam were merged into the Punk and their thoughts were close to the escape from reality as you know they were psychedelic or cosmic-oriented rather than challenging. In Punk Hairstyle, the resistance is the most prominent distinction. They expressed their group identity resisting a pre-existing generation by putting on threatened and aggressive hairstyle. Punk was accepted as high culture in modern fashion, which is just because both the will of resistance in Punk and challenging spirit of younger generation were in accord with each other as the younger generation culture emerged strongly. Every human being has her desire to make a display of herself by means of outward appearance regardless of gender and age. As shown that glam and punk people tried to pursue their personality and identity through their own hairstyle, the more the society is multi-organized, the more the role of hairstyle will become important and emphasized as the factors of expression of personality and identity.
