소유자 요구를 고려한 자동차 등록 번호판 개선에 관한 연구

Abstract

자동차 등록 번호판 제도에 대해 많은 연구가 선행되었으며 특히 글자체, 색 대비, 배열 등 인간공학적 연구가 그 주류를 이루었다. 그러나 기존의 연구는 번호판을 단지 단속과 관리의 도구로만 인식하고, 번호판의 정보체계를 유지한 채 연구가 진행되어 그 목적과 범위가 매우 한정적이라 할 수 있다. 또한 전통적 코드 체계에 따른 기존의 번호판 제도는 사용자의 선택을 도외시 하여 점증하는 사회적 개인적 욕구에 부응하지 못하는 한계를 가지고 있다. 현대의 정보 및 통신 기술의 발달로 주소지 정보, 차량 종류, 용도 등에 대한 정보를 번호판에 기재하지 않더라도 데이터의 관리에 어려움이 없을 것이다. 그러므로 기존의 행정편의에 치중해 판독성이 떨어지는 글자와 숫자의 조합으로 이루어진 현 번호판 체제에서 자동차 소유자 개성을 표현을 하거나, 공공의 메시지를 표현하는 다양한 역할을 하는 번호판으로의 개선이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 시대적 요구에 부응하여 판독성이 뛰어나고, 사용자의 참여로 만들어지는 번호판 제도를 제안하였다. 공공의 메시지, 소유자 이미지를 자유롭게 표현할 수 있도록 개인의 참여를 폭 넓게 인정하는 제안된 번호판 제도의 타당성을 입증하기 위하여 부여용량의 분석과 판독성 실험을 실시하였다. 새로운 번호판의 판독성을 검증하기위해 선행연구에서 사용한 방법에 따라 ①가시거리 측정실험 ②순간판독실험 ③주행측정실험을 실시하여 기존의 번호판과 오독률을 비교 분석하였다. 분석결과 본 연구에서 제안한 번호판은 충분한 용량을 가질 뿐만 아니라, 기존의 번호판에 비해 탁월한 판독 능력이 있음을 실험을 통하여 입증하였다.

Many preceding studies on vehicle registration number plate system focused on Ergonomics study including font, color contrast, arrangement and so on. However, the existing studies can be said to be very restrictive in purpose and scope because they went on recognizing the plate only as an instrument of regulation and management and maintaining the information system in it. Also, the existing number plate system according to traditional code system has the limitations of meeting social and personal desires increasing gradually by neglecting a user's choice. The development of modern information and communication technology facilitates data management for the plate not containing place of residence, kinds of vehicles, uses and so on. Thus, the current number plate system by a combination of letters and numbers with poor readability as a result of laying stress on the existing administrative convenience should be improved to the plate which plays the various roles of expressing a car owner's individuality or public message. To meet the desire from the times, this study suggested the number plate system with excellent readability which is produced from an owner's participation. It made an analysis of capacity provided and an experiment on readability in order to prove the validity of the proposed number plate system which acknowledges personal participation broadly so as to freely express public message and an owner's image. It made a comparative analysis for a rate of misreading with the existing number plate after making ①an experiment on measuring a visible distance, ②an experiment on momentary reading, and ③an experiment on measuring driving, which are the methods used by preceding studies to test the readability of a new number plate. The analysis showed that the number plate proposed by it not only had enough capacity but had excellent readability compared to the existing plate.
