A Study on Using Situation and Improvement Direction of A Hall for the Elderly People in Permanent Rental Apartment Estate : Focused in Busan
Abstract
The aging phenomenon of the population is rapidly progressing with an increase in average life span due to various factors such as social and economic living environments and medical technology development. The problem of old people, therefore, is coming to the fore as a new social issue. And the weakening of family support function along with the trend of nuclear family due of the collapse of the traditional family system and women's participation in economic activities is also becoming a cause of further aggravating the problem of the elderly.
In addition, it is a trend that the number of households with a single old person and a couple of old people is increasing because of the change in consciousness structure of the society and old people themselves. Interests and desires regarding leisure and welfare are also ever increasing. In comparison with these changes, however, it is not easy to get existing welfare services due to causes like the weakening in economic ability of the aged population, and it is also the current situation that nearby facilities are not sufficient. It has turned out that that's the reason why the aged population prefer rental apartments with subsidiary facilities whose cost is relatively cheap, and that the dwelling rate is also further increasing.
Many of rental apartments, supplied by the government in order to solve the housing problem of the low-income class, have been built by hurriedly-made facility standards with a quantity-oriented policy being prioritized. As permanent rental apartments, in particular, are constructed for the low-income bracket, taking account of subsidiary and welfare facilities can be seen to be more important than general housing complexes. Halls for the aged, among them, are leisure facilities for old people and it is more important to take the features of the aged into consideration. Facilities not taking account of the features include unreasonable risk factors in many aspects and raise many problems in the aspects of the living environment's safety and quality for elderly people.
An hall for the aged as a place of leisure activities for older people functions providing a space of leisure activities for them who cannot find adequate leisure spaces after getting old. Especially permanent rental apartments are being markedly degraded in their facility function because of inappropriate environmental support even though many low-income people live together, and the quality of living is ever decreasing. For that reason, a study is required for taking account of the basic material of providing functional indoor space with ration and flexibility to the halls for the aged that can ensure their smooth leisure life for the elderly dwelling in permanent rental apartments.
This study therefore intended to suggest basic materials for architectural planning aspect in order to plan more reasonable halls for the aged by analyzing the correlation with facilities of halls for the aged through case studies for the features of the aged population that can be expressed variously.
