영어 듣기 능력 향상 방안 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 학생들의 듣기 능력 향상을 위한 방안들을 연구한다. 그 구체적인 연구과제로는, 첫째, 학생들의 영어 듣기 능력 향상을 기할 수 있는 방안을 연구한다. 둘째, 영어 듣기 능력 향상에 필요한 교육 환경적 여건들을 연구한다. 듣기 능력을 향상시키는 데에 교사는 학생들에게 실제적인 자료를 제공해 주어야 한다. 일상생활과 동떨어진 자료는 학생들의 흥미를 유발시키지 못할 뿐 아니라 실생활에서는 사용하지 못하는 언어를 학습하게 되는 결과를 낳는다. 따라서 교사는 학생들에게 실제적인 자료 중, 팝송, 영화, 뉴스, TV 드라마를 활용하는 방안을 연구한다. 듣기 능력과 교육 환경적 여건 역시 밀접한 관계가 있다. 언어를 학습하는 효과적인 방법은 일상생활 중에서 자연스럽게 그 목표 언어를 접하는 것이다. 하지만 우리나라는 영어를 의사소통 수단으로 사용하지 않기 때문에 일상생활 속에서는 사용하는 경우가 드물고, 학생들이 자연스럽게 영어를 접하는 경우도 드물다. 따라서 학생들이 영어를 자연스럽게 접할 수 있고, 듣기 능력을 향상시키기 위해서는 교육 환경적 여건이 필수적이다. 그 중에서 컴퓨터와 인터넷이 중요한 자리를 차지하고 있고, 실제적으로 영어문화권 환경을 마련하는 것도 중요하다.

The most important purpose in English education is to improve communicative competence. In order to enhance communicative competence, the balanced development of four skills(listening, speaking, reading, writing) is required. However, as we know in the aquisition of children, it is listening skills that students have to learn first. The goal of this study is to investigate methods for improve English listening skills. To achieve the goal, two points are made. The results of the study were followed. First, teachers should give authentic materials to students for the improvement of their listening ability. Authentic materials show the real use of English in daily life, so they are beneficial to the students who are in EFL situation. Pop songs, movies, news, and TV dramas are examples to increase listening skills. Teachers should choose effective materials based on both the students' level and the objectives of a class. Second, educational environment can lead to a successful listening learning. The more students listen English, the better they listen. However, Korean students who are in EFL context have little opportunity to listen English in their daily lives. Because of that, the use of multimedia such as computer and Internet is necessary in listening learning. Above all, to learn listening skills in the real environment that use English is the most effective strategy. Environment like English villages, should be made in and out of the school.
