Design and Implementation of Web-based GIS using an SVG Format Method
Abstract
As the number of users using internet maps are steadily growing, Research on web-based GIS maps integrating various geographical information system(GIS) is now worldwidely going on. However, there have been not enough efficient map providing services although utilizing the map has a wide range of use with increase in its necessity.
The web-based GIS using on SVG format method is proposed to make general users get specific information for them in this thesis. At first, digital map(SVG) available on the internet was created by applying such processes as essential layer extraction, format conversion, layer mergence and layer redefinition to the existing digital map. And, it was improved using not only the function of enlarging, reducing and moving, but the process of adding web linkage information for better use. Also, "Services for finding teachers & schools finding service" that connects specific school web sites was designed and implemented, providing map information agreeing with the requested inquiry after interpreting. This program serves more convenience with easy, efficient and speedy information retrieval system about teachers and schools and direct connection system to the specific school web sites mentioned above. The map service could be operated independent from any program, platform and operating system, and reuse the product developed by script-based language. At last, the problems appeared at the previous implementation were solved through SVG format such as development of extra program, code reusability, expansibility and platform independence.
