드라마를 활용한 효과적인 영어교육방안

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to explore some effective methodologies of teaching English though drama for Korean middle school teachers who are keen to improve their students' communication skill in English. The introduction and the theoretical background mention that drama techniques and activities are effective in enhancing students's communication abilities which are the goals of the 7th English education curriculum of Korea. First, drama techniques can contribute to enhancing learners' communication abilities by creating artificial environment that may happen in real life and having learners use English while acting and feeling in the environment. Second, drama activities provide leaners with opportunities for participating in learning actively as the actor. It has been proved the drama techniques and activities can be used for English class in many ways. Drama techniques and activities are good means for improving students' four skills, especially speaking skill. They can also arouse students' interest and motivation, and give students confidence in expressing their thought and ideas in English. As a result, they can help students to improve communicative competence. The purpose of this study is to develop teaching methods through drama for improving communicative competence of English learners, on the premise that drama techniques and activities are very useful for English teaching and learning. In order to confirm and use drama techniques and activities as effective teaching methods , the studies about communicative competence and drama are given as a theoretical background. Then various methods of drama techniques and activities to improve learners' communicative competence are presented. And lastly a model teaching plan is suggested to show how to teach through drama in English class.
