외국어 쓰기 활동에서 오류 일지의 효과

Abstract

본 연구는 외국어 쓰기 활동에서 오류 일지가 학습자의 쓰기 능력에 미치는 효과에 대해 조사한 것이다. 제 2언어로서의 한국어 교육 분야에서 과정 중심 쓰기 교육이 확산됨에 따라 교사의 피드백과 학습자들의 수정 활동에도 관심이 높아지고 있다. 그러나 학습자들이 교사의 피드백을 효과적으로 활용할 수 있는 전략에 대한 연구는 아직 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 극복할 수 있는 방안으로 오류 일지 사용을 제시하였다. 그리고 이것을 한국어 교육 현장에 적용하여 그 효용성을 밝혔으며, 나아가 현장에서 나타난 문제점을 고찰하여 그 활용 방안도 제시하였다. Ⅰ장에서는 연구의 필요성과 목적을 소개하였다. 제 2언어로서의 한국어 교육 분야에서 이루어진 쓰기 교육에 대한 연구를 살펴보고, 오류 일지 연구에 관한 필요성을 제기하였다. 또한 연구의 목적이 오류 일지가 학습자들이 자신의 오류에 효과적으로 집중하고 쓰기 정확도를 향상시키는 데 도움을 줄 수 있는지를 검증하는 데 있음을 밝혔다. Ⅱ장에서는 연구에 필요한 이론적 배경을 소개하였다. 우선 제 2언어로서의 한국어 쓰기 교육의 흐름을 살펴보고 교사의 피드백과 학생의 쓰기 능력 향상 간의 관계를 살펴 보았다. 그리고 외국어 쓰기 교육 분야에서 오류 일지 작성에 대한 선행 연구들을 짚어 보았으며, 한국어 교육에서 오류 일지 연구의 필요성을 주장하였다. Ⅲ장에서는 본 연구의 방법과 절차를 소개하였다. 본 연구는 국내 한국어 교육 기관에서 제 2언어로서의 한국어를 학습하고 있는 초급 학습자 6명을 대상으로 3개월에 걸쳐 이루어졌다. 학생들의 쓰기 과제에 대해 교사가 피드백을 하고, 이를 돌려받은 학생 중 3명은 오류 일지를 작성하였고 나머지 3명은 오류 일지를 작성하지 않았다. 이렇게 얻어진 자료는 각 과제별로 비교 검토를 통해 오류가 분석되었는데 오류의 전체 빈도와 오류 개선율 및 반복률을 조사하였다. Ⅳ장에서는 연구 결과로서, 오류 일지를 작성한 집단과 작성하지 않은 집단의 오류 빈도 분포를 제시하였다. 이 결과를 토대로 오류 일지 작성이 학습자의 쓰기 정확도 향상에 미친 영향을 검토하였다. 이와 함께 오류 일지의 효과성에 대한 학생들의 인식과 태도도 제시되었다. Ⅴ장에서는 연구 결과를 정리하고, 본 연구에서 제한점으로 남는 몇 가지 문제에 대한 제언을 덧붙였다. 또한 본 연구가 한국어 교육 현장에서 갖는 의의를 살펴보았다.

This paper presents a study on the effects of using error log entries on Korean as a Second Language (KSL) student writing. In recent years, there has been an increasing amount of interest in instructor feedback and student correction among KSL writing teachers and researchers. However, in the field of Korean education there has been no practical research done on student self-editing strategies that utilize teacher feedback. Therefore, this study proposes keeping error logs as a way of helping KSL writers focus on their patterns of written errors and thus take responsibility for their progress. Furthermore, this study specifies the effectiveness of error logs in Korean language classrooms and offers suggestions on resolving problems with their application and implementation. The first chapter focuses on the purpose of this study, which is to investigate the effectiveness of keeping error logs as well as students' views and attitudes towards error logs. The second chapter reviews a brief history of KSL writing education and the effects of teacher feedback on the accuracy of student writing based on previous studies. Research findings on error logs in L2 writing will also be examined. The experimental methods and procedures employed in this study are described in the third chapter. The subjects were 6 upper beginning-level KSL students at a Korean language institute in Busan, South Korea. Each student was required to produce 8 writing assignments for this research over a 3 month period. The students' writing assignments contained written feedback from the teacher. The experimental group of students then wrote an error log after receiving the teachers’ feedback. All the data from the students were cross-checked as they moved from one assignment to the next. In the fourth chapter, the conclusions and implications of this study are described. An analysis of the frequency of lexical and grammatical error types in students' writing, and their views and perceptions about error logs are presented in this chapter. The effectiveness of error logs based on these results were examined. In the last chapter, a brief summarization of the results of this study is presented and some suggestions are offered as solutions to the problems identified in this study.
