- The Differences in Self-control, self-efficacy, and Self-esteem according to the Level of Middle School Students' Cyber-deviation
- Abstract
- As adolescents' use of the internet increases rapidly, the cyber-deviation problem of middle school students is getting more serious. This research examines these problems and discusses issues regarding cyber-deviation level. The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in self-control, self-efficacy, and self-esteem according to the level of cyber-deviation of middle school students
Specifically, the research questions are as follows:
(1) Is there any difference of self-control according to the level of middle school students' cyber-deviation?
(2) Is there any difference of self-efficacy according to the level of middle school students' cyber-deviation?
(3) Is there any difference of self-esteem according to the level of middle school students' cyber-deviation?
In order to answer these questions, a survey was conducted of 1,188 participants who were chosen as subjects for this research, composed of 627 males and 561 females in six middle schools located in Pusan. The survey was divided into five sections: a cyber-deviation scale, a self-control scale, a self-efficacy and a self-efficacy scale in cyberspace and a self-esteem scale. The collected data was analyzed by methods such as one-way ANOVA, and the Scheffe method for post-hoc comparison based on ANOVA analysis using SPSS 12.0 for Windows.
The findings of this study are as follows:
First, there is a significant difference in self-control according to the cyber-deviation level of middle school students. Those with a substantial cyber deviation level had the lowest self-control.
Secondly, there was a significant difference in self-efficacy and self-efficacy in cyber-space according to the cyber-deviation level of middle school students. Those with a substantial cyber-deviation level had the lowest self-efficacy, but had the highest self-efficacy in cyber-space.
Third, there was a significant difference in self-esteem according to the cyber-deviation level of middle school students. Those with a substantial cyber deviation level had the lowest self-esteem.
This study suggests that cyber-deviation action affects the self-control, self-efficacy and self-esteem of middle school students.
