Abstract
Age and growth of Korean flounder, Glyptocephalus stelleri were determined using samples collected from October 2006 to September 2007 in the East Sea of Korea. Age was determined from blind side otolith (sagitta) surface reading and annuli was formed between February to April once a year. Spawning season was estimated from February to April, thus rings were considered as annual marks.
The von Bertalanffy growth equation based on mean back calculated length at age data and parameters estimated from nonlinear regression method. There was significant difference in the regression of total length (TL) on otolith radius (R) between sexes by covariance analysis.
The von Bertalanffy growth equation parameters were L∞ =40.28 cm, k = 0.1377 yr^(-1), t0 = -1.6230 years for female and L∞ = 31.34 cm, k = 0.1560 yr^(-1), t0 = -1.6184 years for males respectively.
The oldest fish was 7 years old in female and 6 years old in male.
