한국 연근해 밍크고래의 혼획 특성에 관한 연구

Abstract

2002년부터 2006년까지 우리나라 연근해에서 혼획된 밍크고래의 혼획 특성을 파악하고, 밍크고래와 어구와의 관계를 분석하였다. 조사 기간 동안 총 415마리의 밍크고래가 각종 어구에 의해서 혼획되었으며, 연평균 83.0마리, 월평균 6.9마리가 혼획된 것으로 파악되었다. 6월에 가장 많은 밍크고래가 혼획되었으며 (57개체; 13.7%), 그 다음으로 12월에도 많은 밍크고래가 혼획되었다 (50개체; 12.0%). 해역별로는 동해에서 가장 많은 밍크고래가 혼획되었으며 (329개체; 79.3%), 남해 (51개체; 12.3%)와 서해 (35개체; 8.4%)에서는 밍크고래가 비교적 적게 혼획되었다. 혼획된 밍크고래의 체장은 3.0～8.2m의 범위를 보였으며, 평균은 5.2m로 비교적 어린 개체들이 많이 혼획되었다. 성별로는 수컷이 193마리, 암컷이 139마리가 각각 혼획되어 수컷이 암컷보다 상대적으로 많은 비중을 차지하였다. 대부분의 밍크고래는 통발, 정치망, 자망에 의해서 혼획되었다 (360개체; 86.7%). 또한, 안강망, 저인망, 선망과 같은 어구에 의해서도 밍크고래가 일부 혼획되었다. 총 41% (47개체)의 밍크고래는 어구의 모릿줄과 아릿줄에 걸리는 것으로 나타났으며, 주로 밍크고래의 입 부분이 어구에 걸리는 것으로 나타났다 (46개체; 40%). 밍크고래의 혼획이 일어나는 해역의 특성에 대해서 분석한 결과 대부분의 밍크고래 혼획이 연안으로부터 10마일까지의 거리에서 발생하였다. 한편, 밍크고래의 혼획이 일어나는 어구설치수심은 10m부터 220m까지로 넓은 범위를 보여주었다. 분산분석을 실시한 결과 해역이나 어구에 따라 혼획된 밍크고래의 체장 조성에 있어서 유의한 차이가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다.

Minke whale bycatches were analyzed to investigate the characteristics associated with fishing gears in Korean waters between 2002 and 2006. A total of 415 individuals of minke whales were bycaught by several fishing gears during this period. The average number of bycatch minke whales per year was 83.0 individuals. A peak of minke whale bycatch occurred in June (n=57; 13.7%) and the secondary peak, in December (n=50; 12.0%). Most minke whale bycatch took place in the East Sea (n=329; 79.3%). The body length of bycatch minke whales ranged from 3.0 to 8.2m with a mean of 5.2m. Males and females in bycatch minke whales were 193 and 139 individuals, respectively. The majority of minke whale were bycaught by three fishing gears such as pots, set nets and gill nets (n=360; 86.7%). Some minke whale bycatches were associated with stow nets, bottom trawls and purse seines. A total of 47 minke whale was bycaught at the main line and branch line of fishing pots. The most common part of minke whale body which attached to fishing gears was mouth (n=46; 40%). Most minke whale bycatch took place within 10 nautical miles from the land (n=92; 80%), and between 10 and 220m water depth.
