The graft polymerization of acrylic monomer for improve adhesion of EPDM
Abstract
Ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM) is excellent in the weatherability, ozone resistance and heat resistance. However, adhesion of EPDM to most adherend is lower than the natural rubber and SBR. In this study, graft polymerization of acrylic monomer such as methyl methacrylate(MMA), butyl acrylate(BA) with EPDM was carried out for improving adhesion force of EPDM. Then gel content, peel strength, tensile strength and elongation were evaluated. With the increase of monomer content the gel content was increased. When the weight ratio of EPDM and acrylic monomer was 1:0.1 the peel strength obtained was the highest level. As the content of the acrylic monomer increases tensile strength was increased, but elongation was decreased.
