- Abstract
- Materials using in the various industrial parts is always exposure to corrosive environment and it causes seriously economical damages. There are several methods to protect corrosion of metal, cathodic protection is widely used in industry such as ships, ocean structures and man;y other facilities. The cathodic protection is divided into two techniques; 1) impressed current cathodic proctection (ICCP) and 2) sacrificial anode cathodic protection (SACP). In the case of on- and off-shore structures, the later is preferentially used because it is hard to obtain the power source for cathodic protection in remote marine circumstances. For the sacrificial anode cathodic protection, Al and Zn alloys are normally used.
For the long-term protection of ships and ocean structures, the anode efficiency is very important. Although many researchers have studied the improvement of anode efficiency, it needs to improve the anode efficiency for long-term protection of metal.
In this study, the corrosion properties of newly developed Al and Zn sacrificial anode were investigated. Trace elements, i.e Mg, Sn, Al, Ce are added to improve the anode efficiency of Al or Zn sacrificial anode.
