미스 반 데어 로에의 건축에 나타난 동양적 특성에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 미스의 건축에 나타난 동양적 특성에 관한 연구이다. 사실, 19세기 후반과 20세기 초 서양에서는 동양사상과 문화에 대한 관심이 증가되었다. 당시, 미스, P. 베렌스, H. P. 베를라헤, F. L. 라이트 그리고 H. 헤링 등과 같은 많은 예술가들을 포함한 서구의 많은 지성인들은 동양에 관심을 가졌다. 이러한 영향과 함께 중요한 점은, 미스는 슈바르츠, 과르디니, 셸러 그리고 화이트헤드의 ‘통일’개념에 커다란 영향을 받았다는 것이다. 더욱이, 이러한 사상들이 유기적 전체성으로서의 세계관을 지닌 동양의 사상과 유사하다. 한마디로, 보편적 사상은 보편적 공간과 동양적 색채와 같은 미스의 건축 사상의 공통분모인 것이다. 다시 말해서, 내 외부의 통일, 시공간의 연속성 그리고 사람과 자연의 조화는 그의 작품에서 공통적으로 발견된다.

This study aims to research on the Oriental characteristics shown in Mies van der Rohe' architecture. In fact, it is not to say that in the late 19th and the early 20th century when the interest in the Oriental thoughts as well as Cultures had increased in the West. At that time, the Orient in itself had gotten attention by a lot of Western intellects including many artists such as Mies, P. Behrens, H. P. Berlage, F. L. Wright and H. Haring etc. Importantly along with the influence, Mies had been greatly influenced by R. Schwarz, R. Guardini, M. Scheler and A. N. Whitehead as the thoughts of a unity. More significantly in this respect, those thoughts are akin to that of the Orient possessed the world-view as an organic whole. In a word, which universal ideas are a common denominator that forms Mies’ ideas, ‘universal space’ and Oriental overtones in his works. That is to say, the ‘unity’ of the inner and the outer, the continuity of space-time and the harmony of human and nature are commonly found in his works.
