A Study Regarding Reporters Recognition on the Influence that SNS Had on to News Production
Abstract
This dissertation intended to study the effects of using social network services when entire news production and distribution-sales area. This study researched and analyzed through qualitative method using in-depth interviews on reporters, and data from existing papers was used on interviews as basic reference. 20 journalists were selected evenly from broadcasting and newspaper companies in different provinces for comparative analysis of diverse angle.
The first of the results indicates that reporters have great interest on social network services. They are eager to use these services, and have both positive and negative viewpoint. For positive reason, they pointed out on a great ripple effect and various accommodation. But for negative reason, they mentioned on how they were not reliable enough when the sources were not accurate.
The second is to identify how social network services have changed the gate-keeping and agenda-setting process. The results indicate that reporters state gate-keeping process is necessary in news production, but showed a problem of not having a gate-keeping process. For agenda-setting, social network services are more effective than the previous debates on bulletin board, and as they maintain or intensify social relationship as more advanced media than internet, they allow people to express their opinion and communicate with others.
The third is a range of relationship between reporters and sources was limited in the past, and it was almost impossible to build personal relationships. Social network services are solving such problems.
Through this study, social network services are expected to make effects in overall news production and will have great applicability in news production in the future.
