Synthesis of Core-crosslinked Block Copolymer Micelles via RAFT Polymerization
- Abstract
- The limited stability of micelles against dissociation was overcome by the covalent crosslinking of micellar cores. The amphiphilic block copolymers synthesized via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, poly(ethylene oxide)-b-polystyrene (PEO-b-PS), poly(acrylic acid)-b-polystyrene (PAA-b-PS), still carry the trithiocarbonate group. Further chain extension can be carried out by restarting the polymerization in the presence of a new monomer. Therefore, this process was utilized to crosslink the micelles following the self-assembly of block copolymer in selective solvent. The self-assembly of block copolymers and the crosslinking reaction of micellar cores by
RAFT polymerization using crosslinker were attempted to occur in one pot.
