- Abstract
- There have been more and more countries in the world signed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with their partners in order to upgrade their trade effects. Korea · ASEAN FTA, especially in the case of Vietnam, has made Korea · Vietnam’s trade increase remarkably since it went to effect in 2007. Before the FTA, Korea ranked the 11th in exportation and the 5th in importation of Vietnam but jumped up to the 4th and the 2nd respectively, which has been considered a great achievement in their bilateral trade relationship. In addition, Korea now is the second largest investor in Vietnam after USA playing an important role in Vietnam’s economy development.
The paper focuses on analyzing the positive impacts of Korea ·ASEAN FTA on Korea · Vietnam's merchandise trade in recent years. On the other hand, it also argues the challenges that Korea and Vietnam face in their trade relationship such as yearly changed tariff rate, the difference of Vietnam's product categories from global system, the limitation of market information, infrastructure and distribution system, etc. Once such challenges are improved, Korea · ASEAN FTA will not only create more trade and benefits but also become a "push-up" for Korea · Vietnam FTA in near future.
