Alternative Title
A Corpus-based Study on Adjective Collocations of Resulting Copular Verbs
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the adjective collocations of the resulting copular verbs through COCA. This study shows the characteristics of the resulting copular verbs suggested by Biber et al. (1999), and I explain the adjective collocations of the resulting copular verbs found through COCA, comparing Biber et al (1999)'s points. This study analyzes resulting copular verbs such as become, grow, get, go, come, and turn, and their adjective collocates.

The findings of this study are as follows: become is occurred with adjectives of awareness and process, grow is gradually changes, especially using comparative forms, and get is changes of affective or attitudinal stance. In generally, go is occurred with adjectives of undesirable change according to Biber et al. (1999), but in some cases, occurred with those of desirable change (e.g. free, unnoticed, strong), and come is occurred with adjectives of favorable change, but sometimes occurred with those of unfavorable change. Finally, turn is occurred with appearance, especially color, but also color explains the conditions of the weather, health, mentality, and situation
