남해 연안 주상퇴적물 중 PCBs의 깊이 별 분포특성 연구

Distributional characteristic by depth of Polycholrinated biphenyls of sediment core in the south sea, Korea
Abstract
The polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) among a number of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the sediment core sample from Yeosu sea in Korea were investigated to figure out distributional trend and characteristic by depth. Concentration of PCBs of sediment core samples in Yeosu sea ranged from 12.19 to 1006.55 pg/g d.w. (average value : 237.77pg/g d.w.) and their toxic equivalent quantity (TEQ; calculated with the WHO2005 Toxic Equivalency Factors) concentration ranged from 0.03 to 45.06 fg WHO-TEQ/g d.w. (average value : 9.13fg WHO-TEQ/g d.w.). The highest concentration was found at the 9-12cm in depth, whereas the lowest concentration was at the 244-251cm in depth. The results showed that the concentration of upper layer (0-65cm) were higher than bottom layer (65-307cm). Composition of PCBs in upper layer were investigated. The ratio of tetra-CBs were dominant homologue unlike bottom layer. This result is assumed as the pollutants were discharged from industrial complexes locating around Yeosu and Gwangyang.
Loss on ignition (LOI) varied from 1.13 (bottom layer) to 9.97% (upper layer). Vertical variations in LOI showed the trend of increasing from bottom layer to upper layer. Furthermore, the trends of concentration and LOI have similar variation.
The three predominant congeners in the sediment core were PCB #77, #118, and #105. The DL-PCBs profile pattern of sediment core was similar to commercial PCBs products (Kanechlor-400, Aroclor1248, and Clophen A-40) and insulating oil.
