- Abstract
- It is trend to apply LED(Light Emitting Diode) lamp which has excellent efficiency and durability instead of halogen or HID(High Intensity Discharge) lamp. LED can be used semi-permanently as a lamp and it has quick response time with 60 nano seconds. Recently, LED is getting into the spotlight by automobile head lamp because LED lamp can be designed freely.
In spite of these advantages, there are some problems to be resolved to apply LED by light source of head lamp for vehicles. the most serious problem is high heat occurred from lots of LED modules. Therefor, effective thermal spreader design is required.
Purpose of this study puts to develop cooling system of LED head lamp for vehicle using Vapor Chamber Type Heat Pipe and to analyze thermal properties of a LED head lamp cooling system.
When a Vapor Chamber Type Heat Pipe is applied, optimum working fluid was water and its charging ratio is 50, 70, 100% to volume of Vapor Chamber.
From the experimental results, thermal resistance of original LED cooling system was 6.02℃/W. And thermal resistance of LED cooling system using Vapor Chamber Type Heat Pipe was 2.65℃/W. This study showed that Vapor Chamber Type Heat Pipe can be a good tool to improve cooling performance of LED lamp for vehicle.
