Abstract

Abstract This study projected and advanced a point on the Modern Japanese phases of the times through the newly coined words and the vogue words oriented in a rapidly changed society. Thus we can understand the economy, policy, and society of Japan and make ourselves familiar with the Japanese culture by studying the phases of these words. The writer investigated the time background centered on the economic, policy and society related with the newly coined words, the vogue words and the grand prix words and then advanced toward the words related with the successive Prime Ministers. The method of this study is connected with the precedent researchers' works and is related with the newly coined words, the vogue words and the grand prix words which are published every year in Japan. Especially this study is investigated through them and The Basic Knowledge of Modern Words, 1991-2010: Special Books. And the columns of the newspapers and the contents of journals published in Japan are referred to understanding a tendency and trend of the each time. The main discourse is surveyed about a general idea and the oriented element of the newly coined words and the vogue words which are related to the economy, policy and society from 1984 until 2009. Among all the 303 words, the economic words are 22%, the politic words are 16% and the social words are 62%. The trend of economic progress and the approval rate of the political party are known by understanding them from 1983 until 2009. And the phases of the times, and the social meanings are investigated only by the grand prix words related with the Prime Ministers. By these words, we can understand the oriented background that reflected the people's uncomfortably mental state because of the social problems which led to bring the bad political morals by the corruption of the bribery and a corrupt relationship between political and business circles. These corruptions of the bribery and political corruptible relations are one of the big causes that appeared by the frequent changes of the political power of the Prime Ministers. And the desire of people who have lived from the prosperous times during 1980's until the lost 10 years of 1990's became the economic recovery and the political innovation being influenced in the rate of the political supporting. For an example, the most many newly coined words and the vogue words are oriented during the administrations of the Prime Minister Obuchi and Goizmi. The desire of people who want to get out of the economic depression became the rate of supporting the Prime Minister and the mental state of people was expressed by the word which abuses the Prime Minister. We could understand the phases of the time through these newly coined words and the vogue words. Therefore, these words which are known by the mass communication reflected the phases of the time and then we can confirm the social reflections by them.
