Abstract
In this study, the effect of dispersion agent, the content and size of nanoparticle in TiO2 nanoparticle/Epoxy resin composites were investigated on the mechanical and thermal properties.
The glass transition temperature of nanocomposites was lower than pure epoxy resin and decreased with the increasing of nanoparticle content. This is probably that the cross link of epoxy resin while solidification was disturbed by the presence of nanoparticles. From this result, it is obvious that curing heat treatment temperature in case of nanocomposite fabrication should be higher than normal heating condition proposed by the resin company. When the 3wt% content of nanoparticle with the dispersion agent was used, tensile strength and modulus were best compared to the other contents of nanoparticle in TiO2 nanocomposites. It was also found that tensile strength and modulus of 20nm TiO2 nanocomposites were bigger than those of 200nm TiO2/epoxy resin composites.
